And round two goes to…Marc! and Tommy boy! Together they produced a great win over Fyrstenberg and Matkowski 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. On Sunday, the dynamic Spanish duo will take on the German team of Kohlmann and Waske.
Marc! and Tommy had a nice pre-rain victory today over Juan Ignacio Chela and Edwardo Schwank of Argentina. The final score after about two and a half long hours was 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. As per usual, photographers were nowhere to be found for this match, or I would include some photos. What is up with the lack of available photos of Marc!? Is he just too awesome for still photography to capture? Does it take a special kind of lens on those fancy pro cameras in order to capture his awesomeness? I have a secret agent on the grounds trying to figure this out…we’ll see how that goes.
Next up is Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski of Poland on Friday.

Okay, so a deep run in Paris isn’t in the cards this year for Marc! in singles, but a potentially delicious hand has been dealt in the doubles draw. He has teamed up with fellow countryman Tommy Robredo to seek out the very shiny Coupe Jacques Brugnon. Their first match is against the Argentine duo of Juan Ignacio Chela and Eduardo Schwank.
This is the first Roland Garros doubles attempt for Marc! Will he be rocking any Nike Summer Classic or Trend sorbet colors on the terre battue? Stay tuned.
And speaking of Marc! and the Madrid Open, he and Ruben won their first round doubles match, but went down in the second round to the top team of Nestor/Zimonjic. They pushed Nestor/Zimonjic – taking the second set off them in a tie break. Given how dominate N/Z have been this clay court season, that’s pretty damn good.
The bad:
Marc! lost in a tight match to Fognini yesterday in the Madrid qualifying round. The score? 67(1) 76(6) 63.
The good:
He’s going to be playing doubles in the main draw. He’s teaming up with Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo and then will take on Kas/Wassen in the first round.
Marc takes on Fognini in a first round qualifying match in the Madrid tournament tomorrow. He’s scheduled on court 5 for “not before 2pm” local time. Send him a virtual cheer around that time to help him out!
skyejaden just returned from Barcelona where she had her own personal Marc!apoloza. He was playing doubles and acting as a practice partner for David Ferrer and some other guy. She picked some of her favorite Marc! photos to share with us, but be sure to go over to flickr to see her whole set. After all, the ones she sent just include the Bendy Marc! action figure. You have to go over there to find the Smiley and Sippy versions. You need to complete your set.
